Partnership Is the Difference Between Running Software and Running Better Operations

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years working with natural gas marketers, producers, LDCs, utilities, distributors, and pipelines, it’s that technology alone has never been the deciding factor in operational success.
The organizations that consistently perform well don’t simply invest in software. They invest in partnerships with people who understand their business, appreciate the complexity of their operations, and remain committed long after implementation is complete.
Today’s natural gas market is evolving faster than ever. Market conditions change daily. Customer expectations continue to rise. New sources of demand are reshaping supply dynamics. Every nomination, schedule, trade, and invoice carries financial consequences.
In an environment like this, having the right technology matters. Having the right partner matters even more.
A Changing Industry Requires a Different Approach
The natural gas industry continues to operate at record levels. U.S. natural gas consumption averaged approximately 92 billion cubic feet per day in 2025, while production reached roughly 107 to 110 billion cubic feet per day. Industrial demand also reached record highs, averaging 23.6 billion cubic feet per day.
Now we’re seeing another major shift emerge.
The rapid growth of AI data centers is expected to create significant new demand for natural gas-fired power generation over the coming years. Forecasts suggest data center-related demand alone could require between 4.2 and 6.1 billion cubic feet per day by 2030.
That growth presents tremendous opportunity for our industry, but it also introduces new operational challenges.
Forecasting becomes more complex. Pipeline capacity becomes increasingly valuable. Scheduling requires greater precision. Risk management becomes more dynamic. Teams are expected to make better decisions in less time while navigating greater uncertainty.
The companies that adapt successfully won’t simply have access to more information. They’ll be able to turn information into action.
Operational Complexity Creates Hidden Costs
I’ve spent much of my career working alongside companies that manage incredibly complex natural gas operations. Regardless of company size, many organizations face similar operational challenges.
Scheduling may reside in one system. Billing in another. Trading somewhere else. Customer information often exists across multiple databases, while spreadsheets continue filling the gaps between departments.
At first glance, these workarounds may seem manageable.
Over time, however, they create unnecessary risk.
Small discrepancies can lead to imbalance penalties, inaccurate billing, delayed settlements, duplicated work, and increased operational costs. During periods of market volatility or Operational Flow Orders, even minor errors can become expensive.
Beyond the financial impact, disconnected processes consume valuable time. Instead of focusing on customers, strategy, or growth, experienced employees spend their days reconciling data, correcting errors, and manually moving information between systems.
That’s not an IT problem.
It’s an operational challenge.
Technology Should Simplify Operations
One belief has guided me throughout my career.
Technology should make operations easier, not more complicated.
That philosophy has shaped the way we’ve built nGenue from the beginning.
Rather than creating another disconnected application, we focused on developing a purpose-built platform for the natural gas industry that connects operational processes across the business.
Whether it’s pricing, customer management, billing, scheduling, forecasting, ETRM, LDC EDI automation, or producer services, the objective has always been the same.
Provide a single source of accurate information that enables teams to work together with confidence.
When data is entered once and shared across the organization, duplicate effort declines. Visibility improves. Decisions happen faster. Operational risk is reduced, and organizations are better positioned to respond as markets change.
Partnership Extends Beyond Technology
Technology is only part of the equation.
What I’ve found to be equally important is the relationship between a software provider and its customers.
Every organization operates differently. Every implementation presents unique challenges. Markets evolve, regulations change, and businesses grow.
The best solutions continue evolving alongside those businesses.
At nGenue, we’ve always believed our responsibility extends well beyond delivering software. Our role is to understand our customers’ operational goals, listen carefully, solve problems collaboratively, and continue improving as their business changes.
That philosophy is reflected in the values that guide our organization every day.
-
Ingenuity means finding practical solutions to real operational challenges.
-
Integrity means building relationships based on transparency, accountability, and trust.
-
Teamwork means working alongside our customers rather than simply supporting them.
-
Operational Excellence means helping organizations improve efficiency while giving them immediate access to reliable, high-quality information for better decision-making.
Those values influence every conversation we have and every solution we deliver.
The Results Speak for Themselves
When operations become more connected and organizations have a trusted partner supporting them, the benefits extend across the business.
-
Teams gain greater visibility into daily operations.
-
Forecasting and scheduling become more accurate.
-
Billing processes become faster and more reliable.
-
Operational risk is reduced.
-
Manual work declines.
Decision-making improves because everyone is working from the same trusted information.
Perhaps most importantly, organizations can redirect their time and expertise toward serving customers, pursuing growth opportunities, and preparing for whatever comes next.
That’s what operational excellence looks like in today’s natural gas industry.
A Conversation About Partnership
Recently, our leadership team sat down to discuss what partnership means to us and why it continues to shape the way we build, support, and improve our platform.
The conversation wasn’t about software features.
It was about listening to customers, understanding their operational challenges, and remaining committed to helping them succeed over the long term.
I believe those relationships have been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career, and they’ll continue to define how we move forward.
I invite you to watch the video and hear directly from our leadership team about the principles that guide our approach.
Looking Ahead
The natural gas industry is entering one of its most significant periods of transformation. Growing demand, changing market dynamics, expanding infrastructure, and new technologies will continue reshaping how our industry operates.
-
While the challenges will evolve, I believe one principle will remain constant.
-
Technology delivers its greatest value when it’s supported by genuine partnership.
If you’re evaluating how your organization can improve operational visibility, simplify complex workflows, or prepare for the future of natural gas operations, I’d encourage you to think beyond software alone.
Consider the value of working with a partner who understands your business, shares your commitment to operational excellence, and is invested in your long-term success.
That’s the kind of relationship we’ve always believed in, and it’s the kind of partnership we’ll continue building every day.
