Most Asked nGenue Questions Answered

By Kenneth Hall

Our team fields a great many questions from prospective Natural Gas businesses. Over time, a handful have proven to be the most asked, so I thought these questions and their answers make good blog content to share.

Question: What is different about nGenue vs. other software products?

Many things … A survey of natural gas businesses evaluating nGenue vs. other software products yielded the following:

  • nGenue is designed specifically for Natural Gas operations – everything else is general purpose or multi-commodity.
  • nGenue is implemented by configuring existing out of the box functionality, not coding non-existing functionality.
  • nGenue is user configurable and user administered – no vendor consultant strings attached.
  • nGenue offers the most Retail and Wholesale Natural Gas functionality, is lower cost to acquire, implement, and operate.
  • nGenue says what it does and does what it says.

Question: How long does an nGenue implementation take?

nGenue implementations range from 8 to 40 weeks, with duration depending on:

  • amount of nGenue functionality selected for implementation;
  • volume and quality of client data to be converted;
  • number of other systems to be integrated with nGenue; and
  • number of LDCs, Pipelines and/or Marketers to be configured.

Question: What if we want modifications or enhancements to existing nGenue functionality?

nGenue’s product roadmap is driven by the needs of nGenue users as the first priority, with existing functionality enhancements and net new functionality releases scheduled every year. For client-requested new functionality that is broadly released to the nGenue user population, there is no cost associated.

Question: How does nGenue see itself within the ETRM vendor landscape?

The best answer is not how we see ourselves, but how industry pundits see nGenue. In a published ETRM Competitor Landscape publication, The Gartner Group identifies nGenue as a “Single Commodity / Energy Risk Management tool”; the single commodity being Natural Gas. Note: Gartner’s assessment is for nGenue’s Trading & Risk functionality, only. Gartner recommends that any company in the business of retail or wholesale natural gas should include nGenue in its operations software evaluation / selection process.

Question: How big do you need to be to afford nGenue?

nGenue is an affordable solution yielding quantifiable ROI to Natural Gas businesses as small as start-ups through the largest of LDCs, Marketers, Producers, Pipelines, and Utilities.
